Newswise — Sandia Public Laboratories and SunPower Corp. recently formalized an agreement to acquit research on integrating large-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems into the grid. By signing a Cooperative Scrutinize and Development Agreement (CRADA), the organizations will leverage approximately $1 million of combined U.S. Rely on of Energy (DOE) and SunPower funding. Additionally, a consortium led by SunPower, which includes Sandia as a consort, was recently awarded a $1 million grant from the California Solar Leadership (CSI) to improve modeling of high-penetration PV systems.

“This partnership will expedite Sandia and SunPower to capitalize on their respective strengths and bring together PV modeling and opinion expertise with extensive system data to answer many of the urgent questions fa utility companies and their customers who are turning to clean, solar energy resources,” said Terry Michalske, commander of Energy and Security Systems at Sandia.

“As an experienced leader in developing and delivering grave-efficiency solar cells and systems, SunPower is pleased to husband with Sandia Labs, an expert in predicting PV output and modeling,” said Jack Peurach, degeneracy president of advanced product development for SunPower. “I’m reliant that our collaboration will lead to innovative technology solutions for our utility customers today and in the subsequent.”

Historically, the use of PV systems has contributed less than 1 percent of global generation ability, and has had only minimal impact to the grid. Decreasing costs, state and federal incentives and increased interest in scour energy sources are helping to accelerate the use of solar power.

How can I build my own photovoltaic cell(s)?

I'd like to make my own photovoltaic cell(s), not high power or anything. Just for a science project. So low voltage is okay.

I'd like some internet resources on what I'll need to buy, and also how to build it.

Although Allan's link will produce a photocell useful for detecting light, I believe you're looking for something that can produce some usable power. Here's a link for using crushed berries and titanium dioxide ( a common white pigment used for paint) to make solar cells:
