Energy plan after village school given a makeover
A VILLAGE disciples was treated to a marathon makeover in time for the start of term.
Pupils this week returned to Llangattock Church in Wales Earliest School in Powys to glistening classrooms and 10 new computers.
Volunteers from British Gas in Cardiff descended on the form wielding ladders, paint pots, rollers and brushes.
The makeover is the latest increase for Llangattock, which is taking part in the British Gas Green Streets Challenge, a year-extensive competition to help communities find ways to save and generate verve.
Head teacher Hayley Smith said the team had done a unlikely job sprucing up the school. “Everything feels so much cleaner and brighter – and that’s got to be ample for everyone’s well-being,” she said.
“Plus it gives our pupils’ artwork the backdrop it unqualifiedly deserves. The standard of display in our school has always been exceptional, but until now it has been overshadowed by peeling walls and misallied paint.
“Now we can show everyone’s work to its best advantage. We can’t hold responsible British Gas enough.”
With funding through Green Streets and Powys local instruction authority, British Gas has already installed cavity wall insulation at the prepare and doubled the loft insulation to meet recommended levels.
In adding, Llangattock is planning to install a solar photovoltaic system and British Gas hopes to place the roof panels during the October half-term.

I have just read an ad for Power4Home solar panel kit. Has anyone actually bought this kit/books. Is it a scam?
I have just read an ad for Power4Home solar panel kit, and was wondering if there is an independent review for it. All the reviews are obviously written by Power4Home themselves, including "comparisons" of other DIY kits. Has anyone actually bought these books and been able to come close to building a solar panel with "parts available from the hardware store" as claimed? Photovoltaic cells are expensive, yet they claim it can be done for about $200.

We have commercial solar panels on our house, so I feel I have a good understanding of what's involved in making a reliable, practical panel. It's beyond my skill, probably beyond most people's.
I checked them out (being an avid alternative electicity buff) and they are not selling you parts, only the instructions on how to build a solar panel for under $200. Yep, you can build a solar panel for under $200, and a sizeable one at that.
You could buy reject cells on ebay, which are about 30% of the cost of new ones, and generally work just as well...You can also construct the panels yourself with cheaper materials...ect

It's possible that you could build for this price, but you must expect a lot of fiddling around. I expect the plans to be fairly general and 'woolly' leaving much information for the reader to surmise for themselves. Your biggest problem is how to get the power into the grid, you will need a Grid Tie Inverter for this and they don't come cheap.
